Howard William "Howie" Dill

Born in Windsor, NS
Howard was a lifelong farmer raising cattle, fruit and vegetables. He enjoyed competing at several exhibitions and fairs, and was a former president of the Hants County Exhibition. He praised his early days as a 4-H member, where he established the skills necessary to develop his world renown "Atlantic Giant" pumpkins and seeds, which have sired every world record pumpkin since 1979.

While growing up, Howard became an avid and passionate sports fan, especially hockey. He spent his life time collecting and preserving hockey memorabilia. His historical knowledge and memory of hockey, at all levels, was amazing to all who visited him.

Over the years, Howard has received numerous awards including Canadian Achiever, Nova Scotia Tourism Ambassador, Canadian Society for Horticultural Science, Guinness World Record holder for his Giant Pumpkins, inductee in the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame, The Paul Harris Fellowship; honorary associate of the N.S. Agriculture College, and many achievements from various International pumpkin organizations.
Howard Dill, 73, pumpkin grower, hockey historian, business owner and family man, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2008 as the result of inoperable liver cancer.
